Beekeeping is an ancient craft, practiced in all world cultures except the arctic. Deep respect is acquired from learning about what bees and other migrating animals eat in our neighborhoods. Foraging only nectar and pollen, honeybees produce clean, healthy food that embodies our environment in taste, texture and beauty. Prairie remnants provide an amazing pallet of perennials and annual wild flowers that many of us don't recognize. The presentation will show the trees, shrubs and other flowering plants that are essential for insect health and which abound in the Chicago region in restoration prairies, neglected lots, and local backyards. Presented by Michael Thompson, Farm Manager, Chicago Honey Co-op.
